Brian pens an interesting piece which takes a look at celebrities and financial management. If the picture Brian paints is true, why then do politicians seek endorsements from celebrities. Even more surprising, why do we care about these endorsements. If success in the sports and entertainment industry isn’t an indicator of sound financial judgement. Wouldn’t this hold true for a celebrity’s judgement of politics and politicians. This piqued my attention because there was a lot of talk about Oprah’s influence on Barack Obama’s candidacy all over CNN, all weekend long. Should I care what Oprah Winfrey thinks about American politics? More importantly would her agenda line up with mine. If our goals and concerns aren’t the same, would it be wise for me to assume that she would be selfless enough to push my cause to the detriment of her big business goals? In the end I do believe that a people deserve whatever president they get.
