Africa – EU Strategic Patnership Define Roles For The Diaspora

The Africa – EU Strategic Partnership lay out the Action Plan 2008-2010 in which clear roles for Africans in diaspora  have being set. This roles include, network building, circular migration and job creation. The possibilities of voting rights for representatives of the diaspora and direct contribution at the policy level through civil society organizations.
Key Recommendation
Increasing consultation of diaspora actors within the various fields who can significantly add value to the implementation of the Africa-EU Strategic Partnership;
- Developing concrete methodologies and strategies for institutions to use as guidelines by which selection can be made for diaspora-institutional engagement;
- Stimulating direct and parallel engagement of diaspora organisations with other IGOs/NGO’s;
- Fostering more coherent and closer partnerships between the diaspora and the private sector.
This appears to me to be the most engaging attempt so far to engage Africans in diaspora as equal partners in addressing issues that matter to the continent. I hope it works and I look forward to a similar idea in the other side of the Atlantic ocean.
