Africa: Universities Ranking

OAU (68) and UI (85) appear on the ranking top 100 universities on the African continent. Yes you read that right on the African continent, not the world. The top two colleges in Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, are not in the top 50. This should come as no surprise to those who follow the education sector in Nigeria. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. soludo, said earlier this year ‘60% of Nigerian graduates are unemployable.” Wow! And yes I saw the methodology of the ranking, it leans heavily on the publications available on the Internet. Yes, this is 2008, if your work can not be found on the Internet, it really does not exist. No points for non existent papers. May I add, I am an alum of the 85th ranked school, sob sob.
