Book: Duct Tape Marketing

The Duct Tape Marketing book suggests a framework for the activities necessary for effective small business marketing. If I had read this book earlier, I could have  avoided a few sleepless nights. It is a how-to guide for small business owners with a big picture slant to it. I recommend it.
My biggest takeaway from reading this book is that good marketing enables you to circumvent or at least minimise the need to ’sell’ a client. John Jantsch discourages following the herd when it comes to marketing the services of small businesses. Though this seems like an easy concept to grasp, many of us still fall for tactics like deploying print advertisement out of frustration , often ending with no results. I have done this under pressure. What sets Duct Tape Marketing apart is that John prescribes solutions to address these challenges.
You may not appreciate this book if you have never been stuck trying to get a business off the ground. I also thought the chapter on referral marketing was too short.  This was my most effective marketing technique in the past and I would welcome any opportunity to improve and refine this method. I read a borrowed copy, I will get a copy of this book for myself. Yes I found it that useful and practical.
